How does your auction work?

Can you value my collection?

Yes! We are happy to provide a FREE valuation, whether it is for one bottle or an entire collection. Valuations are based on the prices achieved at recent auctions. Please remember that prices can fluctuate, the valuation is intended as a guide price only. You can either fill out our Valuation Request Form, along with clear photographs of each bottle, or you can WhatsApp us on 07557 358541. Alternatively, please contact us for assistance.

Do you arrange free collections in my area?

We are happy to arrange FREE collections from Aberdeen to Orkney every month. 

I am not in your area, do you offer a free courier service?

Yes, within mainland U.K. and provided that your bottle or collection exceeds the value of £1500. Please note, insurance is not included and must be paid in advance if required. 

Selling FAQs

How do I get my whisky to you?

We have FREE COLLECTIONS from Aberdeen to Orkney. If you live in these areas all you need to do is CONTACT US to arrange your collection. If you live outside this area, we can arrange a courier to pick up your bottles from any location in mainland U.K. for FREE. Please ensure they are well packed; any damage will be solely at your own risk. Click Whisky Auctions will not accept any responsibility for loss / damage / leakage during transit.

I have a large collection to sell, can you help?

If you have a large collection, please CONTACT US. We will be happy to answer any questions and discuss the next steps with you. We aim to make the process as easy as possible for you from start to finish.

Are there any bottles or items that you don't accept?

Yes, unfortunately there are a few things we don't accept. Currently we only accept bottles, no memorabilia or other related items. Other items we don't accept are:

Bell's Decanters
Bottles that are unsealed, leaking or have damage to the seal
Bottles that have chipping to the glass
If in any doubt, please CONTACT US and we will be happy to discuss with you.

What are the selling fees?

We charge a 5% seller's commission, based on the final value of your bottle at auction. This is to cover the security of your bottles at our dedicated facility, as well as extensive marketing so that your bottles can achieve the best prices at auction. Can I set a reserve price?

Of course! You can place a reserve on any bottle with a value of £150 or more.

Placing a reserve costs £6.50 + VAT per bottle.

What if my bottle fails to meet the reserve price?

Should your bottle fail to meet its reserve price, you can put it into our next auction. This will be free provided the reserve is dropped by 10%. Should you wish to keep same reserve, you will be charged the usual reserve fee to put the bottle in the next auction.

What if my bottle doesn't sell?

Any items that are not sold can be:

Relisted in our next auction.
Picked up from our premises.
Shipped back to you at your own expense.

Buying FAQs

How do I bid/buy from your auction?

First, you need to REGISTER your account with us, this will cost £5 + VAT. Once you've spotted the bottle(s) of your choice you can bid. Each bottle has a starting bid of £15, after that incremental bids increase. You can place a maximum bid by clicking BID, scroll down fixed bid increments (amounts) and place the bid you're comfortable with. What are the commission fees for buyers?

Buying commission fees are 10% + VAT of the total amount. Please be aware VAT is ONLY charged on the commission fee and NOT on the hammer price, unless stated otherwise. These fees do not include shipping costs. Check out our simple BUYING GUIDE for further details. International customers from outwith the U.K. should check local taxes and fees and satisfy themselves of all charges before placing any bids.

What is an incremental bid?

Incremental bids are fixed bidding amounts that increase in value with every new bid placed. Check out our BUYING GUIDE for further details.

What happens when the auction is ending?

If you are bidding, the BID button will turn green if you're bid is winning. If the BID button turns red, it means you've been outbid on that lot. In the last 10 minutes of the auction, bids placed on a lot will set the time remaining on that individual lot back to 10 minutes until the timer runs out.

How do I know if I won a lot at auction?

The timer on last 10 minutes of auction refreshes automatically, keep an eye open on your bids until timer runs out. Should the BID button stay green, it means you've won! You will have 3 days to make payment in full - don't forget there is a 3% + VAT late payment fee. Please check out our BUYING GUIDE for more details.

How long do I have to complete payment?

When the auction ends you will have 3 days to make payment. Late payment will incur a late payment fee of an additional 3% + VAT Any payments due for 10 days or more will result in the account being suspended.

How much does shipping cost?

Please refer to our SHIPPING GUIDE for costs to your region. Please note that it will depend on the weight of your bottle/s and the number of bottles that you purchase. Insurance is highly recommended but not compulsory. Please note that if you do not take insurance then bottles are shipped at your own risk.

Can I bid on my own auction or ask a family member to bid on my auction lots?

Definitely not, it is against the law! Honesty and integrity are not only important to us but to our customers, whether they are buying or selling on our auction. Please check our terms & conditions for further information.
