Distillery Information
Founded in 1828, Springbank distillery was one of many distilleries that once existed in Campbeltown. Originally owned by the Reid Brothers, it was then sold to John and William Mitchell in 1837. John Mitchell’s son joined the company which would then become J&A Mitchell. The beginning of the 20th century saw Campbeltown distilleries close and by 1934, Springbank was one of only two working distilleries left in the area. In 1973, production started for Longrow, a more peated malt in the Islay-style. It would be shortly followed in 1997 with another new whisky, Hazelburn. Springbank remains one of only three working distilleries in Campbeltown today and is the oldest distillery that’s still family-owned.
