Distillery Information
Built in 1819 by the Marquees of Stafford, Brora Distillery was actually originally named Clynelish. It was in 1968 when the now known as Clynelish distillery opened, the older distillery was renamed Brora. It was in early 1983 that production was halted and the distillery mothballed, as was the case for many distilleries at that time. Production would resume almost four decades later in 2020, as Diageo underwent a massive restoration project that would bring the silent distillery back to its former glory; they even replicated the copper stills to be the same size and shape as they were originally, in an attempt to hold on to the character of the spirit that Brora was once so famous for. The first cask of new spirit from this iconic Highland distillery was filled in 2021, marking the re-opening of Brora Distillery.
